On the day of awedding, emphasis is on howradiant the bride looks. Little do they knowthe

stress that shemight have been under for the past few weeks.Abride needs your help to turn her from stressed and haggard-looking to blushing and beautiful.

As I write this, with only two months until my own wedding, I know how stressful planning a wedding can be. Nerves have made me chew my nails and stress often leads to a break out in spots. However, I have taken action and for the last few months, I have religiously turned-up at my regular salon every three weeks for a facial, and plans are made for everything else I will need to do over the next few months to beautify myself.

However, some brides don’t think this far in advance and expect a make-up artist to turn her into a princess on the day without any prep work.

“The venue, the guest list, the dress, the food – brides have so much to do before their big days!” saysAnnet King, Dermalogica’s Director of Global Education. This can often lead to a beauty-regime being waylaid. The fact of the matter is, of course a make-up artist will enhance the facial features of the bride and make her look stunning, but they can’t cover skin issues that haven’t been taken care of properly.

You can make treatments for a bride and her party a really lucrative area of your business and a wedding is one area where a bride won’t be willing to cut back on her beauty treatments.According to UKWeddingBelles.com, the average wedding cost is expected to be around £20,248 in 2012, which is up by £1,643 on 2011. “In 2011 we found that the average bride was being savvy about her spending habits. In 2012 we’re finding that the bride has actually increased her spending in certain areas that she feels important,” says the website.

On average, £190 of this budget is said to be spent on hair and beauty and it’s your job to win the bride’s budget! It’s also worth remembering that this is likely to be the amount that she will spend on beauty treatments getting ready for the big day and hasn’t taken into account how much she and the bridal party might spend for months in advance prepping for the wedding and getting themselves in tip-top condition – there’s still further money to be made from a bride!

One of the best ways to attract bridal clients is to guide them by putting together packages. This way, they aren’t left stumped as to what they should be doing before the big day. Ideally, you should tailor each package to the individual client, asking them what they would like to achieve and what you think they should be doing to achieve this.

Shirley Taylor of Beautytrade Limited believes that bridal packages can be very lucrative for salon owners but that they have to be thought through, promoted and integrated into the salon offer. “Obviously the first thing that has to be right is the condition of the skin and salons should be talking months before the date of the wedding about facial treatments and home care for the complete bridal party. Packages for body polishing, waxing, tanning, nails, lashes and finally make-up are booked for the week leading up to the wedding, but the list is endless.

“Packages for brides can be offered but also multiple booking incentives should be offered so that the bride talks the rest of the bridal party into the whole beauty regime. I know some salons book out the whole salon on Saturday mornings to accommodate the bridal party, of course it can mean a really early start but generally the event is enjoyed by all!”

Plus, don’t forget many brides will be jetting off on honeymoon after the wedding day, which means they will be looking to be prepped and preened for this too, so holiday treatments are something you might want to look at including in your packages too.
