New Water-Based Coating Features Wet/Dry Color Indicator 新的水基涂料带有干/湿程度颜色指示
ASK Chemicals, Hilden, Germany, has recently devel- oped a water-based fireproof coating incorporating a wet/ dry color indicator. Solitec DI changes color during drying, providing an easily discernible, optical indication of the coating’s condition. Complete drying of the coating layer is absolutely es- sential to avoid casting defects such as blisters, gas and slag inclusions, porosity or a rough surface finish. Although insufficient drying leads to rejection and incurs rework- ing costs, excessive drying is often associated with high energy costs. Both cases result in impaired productivity and reduced efficiency. In the past, metalcasters generally preferred fireproof
solvent coatings. However, occupational health and safety and environmental protection as well as economic consid- erations called for an environmentally friendly and sustain- able solution not based on petrochemical products.
