The Education Centre is aimed at developing interactive training programmes for electricians, electrical technicians and electrical engineers in the fields of energy, electricity and the maintenance of automated systems. The certification levels span from a basic to a postgraduate equivalent level.

The centre embodies the culmination of a sustainable partnership between the Vaal University of Technology, Schneider Electric South Africa and the French Ministry of Education. The unique international collaboration enables employment by means of its distinctive approach to training and skills transfer aimed at social upliftment; it opens up opportunities for both students and industry employees.

Schneider Electrical is a global specialist in energy management focussed on making energy safe, reliable, efficient, productive and green. Schneider Electrical South Africa furnished the Education Centre with power supply, home automation, automation and renewable energy equipment. They have also contributed a mentorship programme where qualified students

will be placed in a working environment with qualified artisans for a period of 6 months.

“Schneider Electric South Africa is proud

to be associated with an initiative of this calibre,” adds Carl Kleynhans (Country President). “We truly believe that the centre will be instrumental in increasing our local skills pool, empowering graduates to start their own business and, ultimately, creating broader employment opportunities.”

The project is aligned with the South African Government’s aim to address the shortage of young, skilled people in the field of science and technology. The French Ministry of Education, in collaboration with VUT, vanguards curriculum development by supplying infrastructure, process management and technical expert support. In addition, the French Ministry of Education has committed to find placements for qualified experts for more than three years.

Management Today magazine wishes the partnership and project all future success.
