Slow food for Silverea Virgin gets chrome cruet New SWISS lounge at Zurich airport

Silversea Cruises has created a new ‘Slow Food Adventure in Tuscany’, land option for three of its Mediterranean voyages in 2012. Participants will gain a greater understanding of the region’s wines as well as the ingredients selected for the dishes served in La Terrazza, Silversea’s Italian speciality Slow Food restaurant. The three-night excursion has been designed

in collaboration with Slow Food Italy to highlight the culinary and cultural traditions of Tuscany and introduce participants to local wine producers and products that adhere to the Slow Food philosophy of preserving biodiversity and gastronomic traditions. Members of Silversea’s culinary team will

be on hand to provide expert guidance and exclusive access to local producers committed to responsible and sustainable food production. www.silversea.com

Made of chrome and 66mm tall, Virgin Atlantic’s new chrome salt and pepper pots are the first new items to be announced in the airline’s new inflight service for Upper Class. Inspired by a classic cocktail shaker, the

new design can also snap apart to become an individual salt and pepper shaker. Previous salt and pepper pots became so sought after that they were appearing on eBay for up to £20 each. But to ensure the new shakers are not pinched, cabin crew will collect them after each meal service. The new shakers are the result of the company’s policy to use unique, bespoke designs to make everything in a Virgin aircraft look and feel special. www.virginatlantic.com

SWISS has opened its new Dock B at Zurich airport to offer more efficient security checks and quicker transfer times. There is also a new Business lounge for customers using the new dock’s non-Schengen zone. The lounge is just beyond the passport check for non-Schengen departing travellers, and conveniently close to the Dock B gates. Extending over 650 m2, it has Vitra designer armchairs, Jurassic limestone walls and large windows looking out over the apron area. The lounge is divided into two sections –

one for Senators and Star Gold Card holders, and the other for Business class travellers and Miles & More Frequent Travellers. Each section is provided with a separate working zone featuring free wireless LAN, a spacious bistro area (with buffet) and a range of newspapers and magazines. www.swiss.com
