IShas moved to reassure its betting shop customers that it still retains high quality con- tent following the decision by


three racecourses not to renew media rights. Exeter, Kelso and Perth have, as ex- pected by the broadcaster, switched from SIS to Amalgamated Racing(AMRAC), fol- lowing negotiations with both companies and will soon only be shown on Turf TV from 1 May.


All five Scottish race tracks, Ayr, Hamil- ton, Musselburgh, Perth and Kelso, are now within the AMRAC portfolio of broad- cast rights agreements and the new media rights agreements announced today are a strong addition to the Turf TV schedule. In particular, the addition of three National Hunt tracks strengthens the Winter/Spring schedule and increases the number of fix- tures in a full calendar year by approxi-


mately 7 per cent. These agreements demonstrate signifi-


cant progress in the development of AMRAC’s strategy and when they kick-in 34 of the UK’s 60 race tracks’ pictures and data rights will be licensed to AMRAC until 2018.


Phil Siers, managing director of the SIS LBO division, said: “We conducted renewal negotiations in the belief that we could offer the best financial deals for these courses but we felt it was likely they would move to AMRAC.


“Exeter is a Jockey Club course and it has long been mooted that Scottish tracks would combine to work together and offer a combined racing programme. This is log- ical and, coupled with the continued desire of Scotland to embrace nationalism, it can be no surprise that the Scottish tracks have gone this way.”


Siers added there would be no gaps in the SIS service, despite the defection of the three tracks: “Whilst SIS firmly believes these tracks’ interests would have been better served by remaining as part of the UK and Ireland’s premier LBO service, the SIS betting shop programme will be mate- rially unaffected and there will be no blank racing days. Our shop programme remains strong, still containing more than 50 per cent of the UK fixtures that our customers take bets on.”


Moving into 2012, SIS has said it will be business as usual for its LBO services, in- cluding more than 53 UK and Irish courses plus daily support from South African and other key international horse racing. Siers commented: “When put this alongside more than 2,000 greyhound meetings, plus all our virtual content, SIS is still the service to beat.”
