CHRIS

PATERSON

Christopher Douglas Paterson represented Scotland at under-19, under-21 and A level. His senior club rugby debut came against Kelso and he scored the clinching drop goal in Gala’s victory, also over Kelso, in the 1999 Scottish Cup final. He was full back against Mpumalanga in his only

game on Scotland’s 1999 tour to South Africa before making his international debut later that year as Scotland’s full back in the World Cup win over Spain. He scored his first try in the second Test of the 2000 summer tour to New Zealand however his best international try came in the February 2001 Six Nations Championship draw with Wales, featuring blistering pace and sidestep as he stormed in from halfway. His participation in the 2004 summer tour was cut

short when a serious facial injury in the Test against Samoa led to his return home, following surgery in Sydney, but he was back for the opening match of the 2004 Abbey Autumn Test against Australia. Chris has led Scotland 12 times, throughout the 2004

Six Nations and seven games in 2006/07. He broke two Scotland career records during the 2008 tour in Argentina; in the first Test he passed Gavin Hastings’ record of 667 points for his country and the second match was his 88th international, passing Scott Murray’s record. Chris became the first Scottish player to appear in 50 Heineken Cup matches (44 for Edinburgh, 6 for Gloucester) when Edinburgh won against Castres in October 2008: it was also the first time a Scottish team had won a Heineken Cup game in France. He became Scottish rugby’s first male centurion in the

2010 Test, against Wales, missed the remainder of the Six Nations through injury and returned, off the bench, in the EMC Autumn Test victory over South Africa.
