JOE

ANSBRO

While living near Gatehouse-of-Fleet, Joseph Antony Andrew Ansbro played youth rugby with Stewartry, the Castle Douglas club. Going on to take a natural sciences degree at Cambridge, he played for the university in two match wins against Oxford. His debut for Northampton Saints – for whom he has now appeared on more than 50 occasions – was as a replacement against Moseley in 2007 and that was followed with a try-scoring first start against Rotherham at Franklin’s Gardens. The Glasgow-born centre opted for the country of his

birth when he accepted selection in the Scotland A team for the IRB Nations Cup tournament in Romania in June 2009. Scotland A won that tournament, with Joe making his debut as outside centre in the win against Uruguay. Joe made his debut for Scotland in the victory over

South Africa at Murrayfield in the EMC Autumn Test in November 2010 and started again for the national team, the following weekend, in the win over Samoa before going on to play in four out of five matches in the 2011 RBS 6 Nations. He scored his first try for Scotland as they won the EMC Test against Ireland at Murrayfield in August 2011.
