RORY

LAMONT

While studying for a sports science degree at Northampton University, aged 17, Rory Patrick Lamont was enlisted in Northampton Saints’ academy. In summer 2004 he came north to join Glasgow Hawks, intending to attract the attention of the Glasgow professional team’s coaches. An initial short-term contract allowed him to join older

brother Sean in the Glasgow squad where he made his Celtic League debut in the win over Border Reivers in November 2004. Making his Scotland debut in March 2005 against Wales, and scoring a try to boot, he joined Sean in the side: they were the 19th set of brothers to play together for Scotland. Rory made his Scotland A debut in the 2006 Barclays Churchill Cup competition in Canada and later that year scored a try against Australia A in his home city, Perth. In March 2007 he was on the left wing in the A international win against Italy then was at full back for Scotland A in the two Churchill Cup matches in May 2007, scoring the try in the win against the USA at Henley.

He scored two tries when Scotland won their opening

match of RWC 2007 against Portugal, and he racked up two more in the next game, the 42-0 win over Romania at Murrayfield. He continued at full back for Scotland’s opening 2008 RBS 6 Nations match against France then on the wing against Ireland and England. He missed Scotland’s visit to Argentina in June 2008 but was back in the national XV five months later against South Africa in the Test at Murrayfield, replacing his brother who had been injured against New Zealand the previous week. At the end of November he increased his try tally to six by scoring in the 41-0 win against Canada in Aberdeen. Rory moved from Glasgow to Sale Sharks for season 2007/08 then to Toulon in 2009.
