NICK

DE LUCA

3 DENTON David

Nicholas John De Luca played for Scotland at under- 16, under-18, under-19 and under-21 levels, making his under-21 international debut against the Welsh at Bridgend in February 2004. His seven-a-side debut was in the IRB Emirates Airline

Dubai tournament in November 2004 followed by the event in George the following week. He was also a member of the Scotland team who drew 33-33 with Argentina in the sevens curtain-raiser during the November 2005 Autumn Tests. Selected for the IRB tournaments in Wellington and Los Angeles, he helped Scotland pick up the bowl from both events before competing in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and the IRB Hong Kong Sevens. An apprentice with Edinburgh Gunners in season 2005/06, he then joined Border Reivers, making his competition debut in the Netherdale match against Connacht on the 2006/07 Magners League opening day. At the end of that season, he returned to Edinburgh. Nick was in the Scotland A squads in the Churchill Cup tournaments in 2006 (Canada) and 2007 (England), playing in two games each year. Three more Scotland A appearances came in the IRB Nations Cup tournament in Bucharest in June 2009. He made his international debut as Scotland’s outside

centre in the RBS 6 Nations Championship against France at Murrayfield in February 2008 and retained the role against Wales six days later. After two replacement caps (against Ireland and in the second Test in Argentina) he returned to the starting line-up for the three November Tests. He was omitted from Scotland’s opener in the 2009 Six Nations but made replacement appearances in the other four fixtures and throughout the Bank of Scotland Corporate Autumn Tests. During summer 2010, he topped Scotland’s individual tackle count in their historic victory over Argentina in the first Test of the tour. Nick scored his first try for Scotland in March 2011, against Italy at Murrayfield and gave a man-of-the-match performance against the same opposition during the EMC Test in August 2011.
