ALLAN

JACOBSEN

Allan Frederick Jacobsen played age-group rugby for Edinburgh and for Scotland at under-18 and under-21. A fine debut for Scotland A against their English counterparts in April 2000, and for Scotland in the non-cap game against the Barbarians that year, saw him selected for the summer tour of New Zealand. In 2001/02 he played for Scotland Development XV against Tonga and Scotland A against Argentina, New Zealand, England, Italy and Ireland, scoring two tries in the win over the Pumas but breaking a hand bone in the game at Ravenhill. His first cap came during Scotland’s 2002 tour to North America, and his first start in a Murrayfield Test against Ireland in the RWC Countdown match in September 2003. Though omitted from the World Cup squad, he was subsequently called up to replace the injured Gavin Kerr. Allan’s first RBS 6 Nations start came against Italy in

2004, followed a week later by France at Murrayfield. Injury curtailed his summer tour to Australia though he was back for the Autumn Tests. The following May he was among Scotland’s try-scorers in the victory over the Barbarians in Aberdeen. In June 2006 he played in all Scotland A’s matches in the Barclays Churchill Cup and five months later he returned to the national squad, coming off the bench against Romania and the Pacific Islanders. Allan continued as replacement in all Scotland’s internationals in season 2006/07 but was back in the starting XV for the August Test win against Ireland. A leg injury on his World Cup debut against Portugal caused his exit from the squad but he returned for all Scotland’s 2008 fixtures, three Six Nations’ games and all the 2009 Autumn Tests. He was a powerful presence during all Scotland’s 2010 Six Nations fixtures and both summer Tests against Argentina and became the 29th Scot to reach the milestone of 50 caps when he played in Scotland’s 19-16 triumph against Samoa at Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen in November 2010.
