EUAN
MURRAY
Euan Alistair Murray played for Scotland at under- 18, under-19 and under-21. While with the Glasgow Southern club (now GHA), he played for Glasgow Schools’ under-16 team, visited New Zealand with the Glasgow Thistles’ development squad, and played in Glasgow teams who won the district under-18 and under-19 championships. He moved to Glasgow Hawks for 2001/02 and in summer 2003 was given a professional contract by Glasgow Rugby, scoring a try on his Celtic League debut against Cardiff. Euan travelled to Australia with the senior Scotland squad for the 2004 summer tour but injury prevented him from playing. His first senior Scotland appearance was in the win
against the Barbarians in May 2005 and his first cap came as replacement against Romania 12 days later. His 2005/06 season was fraught with injury, limiting him to only 17 outings. Euan’s first start for Scotland was in the 48-6 victory
against Romania in November 2006 and he continued at tight head in the other autumn Tests. His Six Nations debut came in the 2007 match against England and he went on to play a significant role in Scotland’s scrummage command in the 21-9 victory against Wales. He scored his first Scotland try in that Championship’s match against France. In summer 2007 he moved to Northampton Saints
and went on to score his second international try in the August Test win against Ireland before proceeding to play in four of Scotland’s RWC matches and all the 2008 fixtures.
He returned from injury to provide a powerhouse performance in Scotland’s victory over Italy in the 2009 RBS 6 Nations. Selected for the British and Irish Lions that summer, his involvement was curtailed due to an ankle injury however he returned to take part in four out of five 2010 Six Nations fixtures and throughout the EMC Autumn Tests.
