ROSS FORD

A former under-16 captain of Scotland, Ross William Ford has also represented his country at under-18, under- 19 and under-21 levels and was a member of the 2002 Commonwealth Games Sevens squad in Manchester. His under-19 honours include the 2002 IRB/FIRA world

junior championship in Italy, when he played in all four of Scotland’s games as a flank forward, though he soon switched to hooker with his pro team, Border Reivers. Ross made his under-21 international debut in the 2004 match against Wales, going on to play in the age group’s world championship that year and 2005. He won his first senior cap for Scotland as a replacement

during the first autumn Test against Australia in 2004. It was over a year before he made his second appearance, reward for a solid season with the Border Reivers, when he came off the bench against Wales in the 2006 RBS 6 Nations. After nine appearances as substitute, Ross had his first Scotland start against France on the final day of the 2007 RBS 6 Nations Championship. He was in the starting XV again for the next international, the August Test when Scotland beat Ireland 31-21, and he continued against South Africa two weeks later. Ross joined Glasgow Warriors in summer 2007 but switched to Edinburgh in mid-October following the Rugby World Cup. He marked his RWC debut with a try when he appeared as a replacement in Scotland’s 56-10 win against Portugal in St Etienne in September 2007, and played in a further three matches in the tournament. His second international try came in Scotland’s second-Test win over Argentina in Buenos Aires in June 2008. Following appearances in all 2009 RBS 6 Nations fixtures,

he was selected for the British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa that summer and became the first Scot to be part of a winning Lions Test side since Gregor Townsend, Alan Tait and Tom Smith in South Africa 12 years previously. A year later, he was pivotal to Scotland’s success on their historic 2-0 tour victory in Argentina. Ross has now surpassed John Jeffrey as the most-capped player from the Kelso club.
