iRViNG, TexaS— This winter, a two- block section of Drummond Drive in arlington, Texas, was transformed, thanks to the non-profit group Re-


building Together, which teamed to- gether with the National Football league for the 16th year to renovate a neighborhood in the Super Bowl host city. Rebuilding Together selected 30


properties of low-income homeown- ers on Drummond Drive for the proj- ect. a dozen received major renovations like foundation and floor repair, drywall repair, roofing and painting, while 18 were weatherized and will benefit from some energy- saving improvements. in addition, a nearby elementary


school — where 98% of the students quality for federal meal programs —


received new playground equipment. among the volunteers were local


contractors and skilled construction workers, along with members of the Pepco Sales team, a manufacturers’ rep firm based in irving. a sur-


prise guest/volunteer was former Dal- las Cowboy and NFl Hall of Fame running back Tony Dorsett, who served as chairman of the volunteer outreach program of the Super Bowl Host Committee. Dorsett helped out with some painting, and also addressed the vol- unteers, noting that the first day of the project coincided with the Martin luther king Jr. holiday. “Martin luther king obviously


was a man who believed in people working together and trying to live together,” said Dorsett. “we see so many different people out here to- gether, working together trying to up-


lift this community.” according to Pepco’s liz Parham,


she learned about the project and their need for volunteers at a local NaRi meeting. “i knew that Pepco would be able


to help in some way, so i got the in- formation and we donated everything that we were able, including toilets, toilet seats and kitchen sinks,” she
