CHICAGO— Realizing that a coordi- nated effort between all industry par- ticipants is needed to advance issues of critical importance to the long term health of the industry, the American Supply Association (ASA) has en- tered into a formal working relation- ship with members of United Purchasing Affiliates (UPA). “Two vital ASA long range goals have guided the association’s move to sign agreements with buying groups,” said ASA Executive Vice President Mike Adelizzi. “First is to engage everyone in the industry to aid in the fight to protect industry interests in Washing- ton D.C. and secondly is the need to elevate the professionalism of the in- dustry. ASA’s ability to achieve both goals is enhanced through the buying


groups because of their close working relationship with a broad cross sec- tion of wholesaler and manufacturers and their ability to motivate their members to take action.” “Getting industry professionals to

MORTON GROVE, ILL. — Bob DeWyze, former Director of ITT Bell & Gossett’s Little Red School- house in Morton Grove, Illinois, for more than 40 years, recently passed away. DeWyze trained tens of thousands of HVACR professionals at one of the indus-

try’s most venerable educational in- stitutions from the mid-1950s until his retirement in 1997. An ex-Ma- rine and World War II veteran, Bob was known for his no nonsense ap- proach to quality education. Born on January 16, 1923, he was


88 years old when he died on Febru- ary 8, 2011. He is survived by his daughter Renee and sons Bruce and Brian, and three grandchildren.

Johnstone Supply inks strategic partnership with HARDI


PORTLAND, ORE.— Johnstone Sup- ply Inc. announced a new strategic partnership with the influential trade group HARDI (Heating, Aircondi- tioning & Refrigeration Distributors International) that is designed to benefit both organizations and ad- vance shared goals. The agreement will establish HARDI membership status for all Johnstone stores across the country, increase accurate track- ing of industry performance between the two organizations, and involve Johnstone in HARDI committees and advocacy leadership positions. “This agreement further demon-

Key components include an initiative to enroll every Johnstone store owner as a HARDI member and granting full access to HARDI’s range of distributor re- sources and information, and shar- ing of data and information, helping HARDI in to track industry per- formance and Johnstone to better track and evaluate the Cooperative’s performance. The partnership also will involve Johnstone executives and owners in HARDI leadership positions on key committees to proactively drive the direction on issues such as govern- ment relations, professional devel- opment and training, management methods (benchmarking) and the HARDI Educational Foundation.
