Challenge and Reward Your Group at the Wisconsin State Fair
In 2008, a partnership was developed between WSMA and Wisconsin State Fair. The mission of this partnership is to give directors, an opportunity to showcase their music programs, chal- lenge students, provide an educational setting and enjoy all the excitement that the Wisconsin State Fair has to offer.
Plan now to be a part of the 2011 WSMA World Music Showcase held on the World Café Stage on August 12. This stage is open to ensembles of all types and is a celebration of world music. Re- cent performances have included hand- bell ensembles, string quartets, Celtic ensembles, jazz ensembles, flute choirs and more. Each ensemble selected to perform will receive free admission to the Wisconsin State Fair for students and directors as well as a performance time on the World Café Stage.
Marching bands, show bands, drum lines, color guards and all other pageant- ry units are encouraged to participate in the WSMA Marching Showcase on the Time Warner (Grandstand) Mainstage. They will perform in front of an ap- preciative audience as well as receive feedback from evaluators. While this is not a competitive event it is an oppor- tunity for directors to get their units on the track, receive valuable feedback and be the “Grand Champion of Summer.” Students and directors will receive free admission to the Wisconsin State Fair.

When rock band “Little Saint Anything” won Launchpad, they earned a very special honor – the chance to say “thank you” to music teacher Rebecca Winnie of Homestead High School by designating a $5,000 prize package to her school, courtesy of Yamaha Corporation of America. The Yamaha Clavinova digital piano package was presented to Winnie during her choir concert at Homestead High School in Mequon on October 25.

WSMA News x
Launchpad
As WSMA increases offerings to Launchpad groups, we are proud to announce an expanding opportunity to school music programs. Yamaha will be providing an equip- ment package to the school music program of the winning Launchpad group. See photo of last year’s recipient in this section and read more by visiting the Launchpad web site at
www.launchpadwisconsin.org.
This year Broadjam (
www.broadjam.com) will continue an online voting process to select a “Wild Card” group to perform in the Launchpad state finals competition. By submitting one song for this voting process, groups will have the opportunity to share their music with a worldwide audience. This opportunity truly puts Launchpad into the world spotlight as an educationally based performance opportunity.
Launchpad, now in its seventh year, is one of the fastest growing and exciting new WSMA programs offered to high school students. It encourages students to creatively put into practice lessons learned in your music program by applying in their own way what they have learned.
Launchpad registration opened on January 3 and closes on February 4. The registration fee is $30 and must be submitted at the time of registration. For further information or to register please visit the
www.launchpadwisconsin.org.
