Rock ‘n Stroll

The Wisconsin Center for Music Education, home to popular statewide music programs like Solo & Ensemble and Launchpad, made way for another exciting festivity – the inaugural Rock ‘n Stroll 5K fun run and one-mile family costume stroll beginning and ending at the center in Waunakee on the morning of October 30. The 5K fun run consisted of a route around Waunakee and ventured through scenic areas like the Arboretum and over the historic covered bridge. The one-mile family costume stroll made a loop around the area’s office park. Businesses enlightened strollers with goody bags and prizes were awarded for different ages and categories including top male and female 5K finisher, best costume in various age groups and best family costume. In addition, there were a variety of activities for children, including a bounce house and animal petting area, and of course, music. The event was a fundraiser for the center connecting the statewide facility with the Waunakee community.

Recent Waunakee graduate Briana Bruckner shares her talent by singing familiar tunes to Rock ‘n Stroll participants.

• August 2-4 – Featured Event:

Welcome Carol Krueger, who presented three sessions on Building Literacy & Musicianship Skills in the Choral Rehearsal at the Wisconsin State Music conference. The workshop this summer will not only appeal to choral instructors, but to instrumental instructors as well. Mary Klemm Harris, an instrumental music instructor in An- keny, Iowa, had this to say, “Our students are starting to recognize patterns in the music, allowing them to ‘read’ it with more fluency and better understanding.” Stay tuned for more information to come. This workshop is sponsored by J.W. Pepper.

• August 15-16: Yamaha’s Music in Education

• August 17-18: Listening, Learning & Loving It! This work- shop is in association with WMEA Listening Project.
