Breaking News New Partnership Brings SmartMusic to State Honors Music Project

WSMA and MakeMusic®, Inc., the creators of SmartMusic inter- active software, are pleased to announce a partnership designed to assist teachers and students in preparing for High School and Middle Level State Honors auditions. Each year, over 3,000 students audition for the WSMA Honors Project.

SmartMusic supports an ideal practice environment. With a sub- scription to SmartMusic, students and teachers have unlimited access to an accompaniment library that includes the WSMA Honors audition scales and tools to help students prepare scales for their audition.

WSMA Executive Director Michael George stated, “We are excited to develop this partnership between MakeMusic and WSMA. It is a perfect example of collaborations intended to benefit students and teachers of WSMA member Schools.”

Representatives of the High School and Middle Level State Honors committees with technical leadership from Jim Scheuer of Owen-Withee School District have provided input into the SmartMusic offering. They worked closely with SmartMusic representatives Dan Massoth and Leigh Kallestad of the Make- Music corporation. According to Kallestad, “SmartMusic is a great equalizer because it gives every student the opportunity to be the best they can be. Instead of practicing in isolation at home, students can listen to the audition scales, get the tempo and pitch exactly right, and hear how they are doing. The result? They walk into the audition and perform much more confidently.”

Teachers can view a SmartMusic video and get more information on the WSMA Honors web pages at www.wsmamusic.org.
