State Honors Jazz Ensemble Students Eligible for Woody Herman Scholarship
WSMA is pleased to announce a part- nership with the Woody Herman-Sister Fabian Scholarship. Upon selection to participate in the WSMA High School State Honors Jazz Ensemble, eligible juniors are encouraged to apply for this prestigious scholarship. After a review of their submitted portfolio, students will be observed in rehearsal and participate in an interview with the selection committee during the summer camp in Green Bay. From the field of applicants, the Woody Herman Schol- arship Committee will select recipients and announce the results at the WSMA State Honors Jazz Ensemble concert in October 2011 at the Wisconsin State Music Conference.

WSMA High School State Honors Auditions
Auditions for the 2011 WSMA High School State Honors Music Project will take place on February 5 in Eau Claire, Waukesha and Appleton. On February 12, auditions will take place in Middleton, La Crosse, Stevens Point and Milwaukee.
Audition requirements, conductor biographies, audition tips and the High School State Honors Project timeline can be found at
www.wsmamusic.org/programs/hs_honors/ index.html. All information is printable from the web site. WSMA thanks every music teacher for informing their students about the High School State Honors Music Project and the opportunities provided through this prestigious program.
Students will be notified in writing of their audition results no later than April 1. Teach- ers will be able to gain access of their accepted student’s through the WSMA web site. Student contribution for the High School State Honors Project tuition is $420. This tuition includes room and board for the summer camp, music and an Honors Project t-shirt as well as hotel accommodations, some meals, a professionally recorded CD of the concert and transportation while in Madison for the formal concert in October. The tuition also includes the opportunity to work with Wisconsin’s finest teachers as section coaches and nationally recognized conductors.
Teachers, students and parents are encouraged to visit the WSMA web site to view information regarding all aspects of the High School State Honors Music Project. In- formation is updated as needed throughout the audition, camp and concert cycle. Please visit often to explore all aspects of the program.

The 2010 Woody Herman Scholarship recipients are Hope Quade (Mount Horeb senior, electric bass) and Ben Phillips (Middleton High School senior, trumpet). Geoffrey McConohy (Menomonie High School senior, alto sax) received the James P. Krofta Jazz Scholarship Award, presented in conjunction with the Woody Herman Scholarship. Read on by going to
