National Association of Blue Shield Plans where he was chairman from 1976 to 1980.
Following his retirement from active medical practice Dr. Kleh continued to occupy lead- ership roles with National Blue Cross / Blue Shield, and held a number of positions with the Presbyterian Home of Washington, now the Westminster and Ingleside Retirement Communities and the Westminster Ingleside Foundation, which he served as chairman of the board from 1999 to 2006. He received distinguished service awards from the Amer- ican Heart Association in 1967 and the D.C. Medical Society in 1973.
DR. JACK KLEH
The family and friends of Dr. Jack Kleh remember with sadness his death at Sibley Memorial Hospital, on January 17, 2010, fol- lowing a protracted illness.
For over 42 years Dr. Kleh practiced internal medicine in Washington, specializing in car- diology and gerontology. During this time he also held a number of teaching appointments at The George Washington University School of Medicine and served in a variety of lead- ership roles in a number of professional organizations, including the American Heart Association, the American Geriatric Society, the D.C. Society of Internal Medicine, the D.C. Village and the D.C. Blue Shield Plan. Later he served on the board of directors of the
Dr. Kleh graduated from Central High School in 1938; from George Washington University in 1941; and from GeorgeWashington Univer- sity Medical School in 1944. He served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II. Dr. Kleh was a member of Columbia Country Club and The Metropolitan Club. Throughout his life he was an active golfer and is remembered fondly by hismanyfriends at The Burning Tree Club, Bethesda, Maryland, where he was a member since 1962.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Ann Kleh, of Washington, DC; his three chil- dren, William Hunter Kleh, of Key Biscayne, Florida, Thomas Hunter Kleh, of New York City, and Mary Louise Bauer of New Windsor, Maryland; and by three grandchildren, Brian Thomas Martin, of Chicago, Illinois, Erin Suzanne Kleh, of London, England, and John David Bauer, currently serving in the U.S. Army in Fort Benning, Georgia.
