EDWARD DANIEL KNUDSEN, JR. February 5, 2009 Nick died at Fairfax Hospital of Pulmonary


Fibrosis. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and raised in Grandville, OH. Nick received a BS degree from The Ohio State University in 1956 where he was a member of ROTC. He entered the USAF inJuly 1957 as a 2nd Lieutenant. He became a pilot and flew F-102s and F-106s in the Air Defense Command and later wasa Radar Operator spending one year in remote Alaska. Nick retired from the USAF in 1964 as a Captain. He then worked at U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh, PA. Next he was employedby Lear- Sieglar Inc. From 1966 to 1974 as a Marketer in defense equipment to the U.S. government. This job took him and his family to Grand Rapids, MI; Boston, MA and theVirginia-DC area. In 1974 to 1985 he worked for Tracor, Inc. as Vice President of Government Relations. In the 1990's he became Vice President of Government Marketing forVanguard Research, Inc. He retiredin 1999 but continued to work part-time until September 2001 atVanguard. Nick married Anne in 1957. They were married 51andahalfyears. He had two children, David and Melissa; three grandchildren Justin, Nicholas and Cassidy. He was amemberof the Virginia Environmental Business Council and elected as the first Pres- ident for a two year term (1999-2000). Due to health problems in 2001 he became fully retired. He was a very strong personality andismissed everyday.


They say memories are golden, well, maybe that is true. We never wanted memories,we only wanted you. A million times we've cried. If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. In lifeweloved you dearly,in deathwe love you still. In our hearts you hold a place no one else could fill. If tears could build a stairway and heartache make a lane. We'd walk the path to Heaven andbring you back again. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same. But as God callsus back one by one, the chain will link again. Youwill always be in our hearts and memories.

Michael was killed on November 8, 1961,inan airplane crash along with 76 other U.S. Army soldiers being transported to TheArmyTraining Center, Fort Jackson, S.C. The plane crashed, while attempting an emergency landing, 15 milesSWof Richmond, VA. Michael would have celebrated his 67th birthday on Novem- ber 9 hadhe lived.Michael was taken away from us far too soon. We miss you, we love you.We are our brother'svoice. Col. George Juskalian (96) of Centreville, VA was born inFitchburg, MA in 1914. He received a BS degree in Journalism from Boston University in 1936. He joined the school’s ROTC and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the Army Reserve. In November 1940, he volunteered for active duty and was assigned to the 1st Infantry division. During WWII, he participated in the invasion of North AfricainNovember 1942. Three months later he was capturedbyGerman forces in Tunisia, while trying to rescue a fellow officer who was wounded on the front line. He spent the next 27 months in variousPOWcamps inItaly, Germany ay nd Poland. Immediately

war, he served in the Pentagon on Gen. Eisenhower’s staff. Next he attended the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS. In 1952 hevolunteered for duty in Korea and commanded the 1st battalion of the 7th Infantry Division’s 32nd Infantry Regiment.Hewas awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action in the Battle of Old Baldy. In the years between Korea and Vietnam, his overseas assignments included service inIran and France. In 1963 he volunteered for duty in Vietnam where he served for 13 months, first as deputy corps advisor intheMekong Delta and later as inspector general of the Military Assistance Advisory Command,Vietnam in Saigon. Upon his return to the States, hewas assigned to the Military District ofWashington from which he retired in 1967. His decora- tions include two Silver Star Medals, the Legion of Merit, four Bronze Star Medals, the Air Medal, the POW Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Infantry- man’sBadgewith star, and the Parachutist Badge. In 1971 he joined the faculty of Southeastern University, as Director of Graduate Admis- sions until 1980. Concurrently, he completed his master’s degree in business and public administration. He was active in many Veter- ans organizations and the St. Mary Armen- ian Church of Washington. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Lucine Juskalian; son Kevork & his wifeTanya, granddaughter Lara; daughter Elissa Jamaldinian and her husband Joe, grandson George; and sonbyprevious marriage
