IAAPA plants its roots in Orlando

WORLD

HOT on the heels of yet another successful Asian Attractions Expo, which took place in Malaysia in July, IAAPA has announced that Orlando will be the home of its domestic industry showcase for the foreseeable future. The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions said it will host IAAPA

Attractions Expo - perhaps the most important trade event currently serving the global theme park and wider out-of-home leisure industry - at the Orange County Convention Centre (OCCC) in Orlando, Florida, for the next 10 years. Following a recession-riddled, yet ultimately successful IAAPA Expo 2009, which took place at the

Las Vegas Convention Centre last year, IAAPA has been busy preparing for the 2010 event at OCCC, which begins on November 16. And now the theme park and attractions trade body has signed a new contract that will ensure the amusements hub of Florida will play host to its principal gathering until at least 2019. Prior to signing the new

agreement, IAAPA Attractions Expo was scheduled to take place in Las Vegas in 2011, and Orlando in 2012, 2013, 2016, and 2019, with the intermittent years still up for consideration.

“Now the expo will take place in Orlando from 2010 to 2019, adding five years to the original

agreements with Orlando,” the organisation stated. Expanding upon its decision, IAAPA said: “Approximately 25,000 people from 90 nations participate

annually in IAAPA Attractions Expo, the largest education conference and trade show in the world for the amusement park and attractions industry.” The organisation cited several reasons for its decision to remain in Florida, including a “91-year attendance and exhibit sales record for IAAPA,” which was established when the expo was located in Orlando.

SBF completes major Kazakh installation ON July 6, 2010, the Khan Shatyr Entertainment Centre celebrated its official opening in Astana,

the capital city of Kazakhstan. The 100,000 sq. m Khan Shatyr is a giant futuristic-like, transparent, tent-shaped building designed

by British architect Norman Foster. The opening of what has become Astana’s tallest structure was timed to coincide with President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s 70th birthday and the 12th anniversary of the founding of the city. It contains restaurants, boutiques, cafés, bars, spas, a gym, a swimming pool, a cinema and a

large indoor entertainment area with squares and cobbled streets Continuing its global expansion, SBF-Visa Group of Italy supplied several amusement rides to the

complex, including a 38m-high tower, a Pop Ups ride, a Flying Bus ride, the Crazy UFO ride and a flume ride. “SBF-Visa rides can be delivered as park models or trailer-mounted units with few exceptions,” the

company said. “Our product line is so diverse that regardless of whether you are searching for one ride or many to begin a complete new park or entertainment centre we can provide what is needed and desired at an affordable price.”
