Rainbow showcases new licensed characters
NORDIC attractions operator Parks and Resorts Scandinavia has acquired Furuvik, the eco-zoo and American-style theme park located in the eastern Swedish town of Gavle. Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. According to P&R, the acquisition of Furuvik will
reinforce the group’s strategy to provide complete, world- class amusement experiences. CEO Jan Roy stated: “Furuvik supplements and
underpins the range of zoos and amusement parks that we run at present. It is a well tended, popular attraction, and we are convinced that it has the potential for further development.”
LEGOLAND Live!, the annual family festival held at Legoland Windsor, UK, this year took place on one of the main stages during the weekend of July 17-18, and Rainbow Productions was once again there to deliver four character shows, each running several times over the course of the event. New for 2010, a show called Sunflower Sailor starring
HIT Entertainment’s characters Bob the Builder, Wendy and Spud, ran twice each day during the weekend event. Fifi Forget-Me-Not and Bumble returned to Legoland
Live! with their Rock With the Tots Show. Also from Chapman Entertainment’s portfolio of children’s television properties, Roary the Racing Car and Big Chris performed live on stage for the first time in 2010, entertaining young fans with their interactive show.

Revenues up for Disneyland Paris operator
EURO Disney SCA, which owns and operates Disneyland Paris in France, has reported a 21 per cent increase in second-quarter revenues to €373.3m. Within the group’s resorts segment, theme parks
contributed revenues of €181.2m (up 5.1 per cent on the second quarter of fiscal 2009), while hotels and Disney Village contributed €129.1m (up six per cent). Other sources including sponsorships, transportation and other travel services were down 5.2 per cent to €12.4m. The growth in Euro Disney’s theme park revenues was
driven by a four per cent increase in average spending per guest, attributed to an increase in spending on admissions, food and drink. A one per cent rise in park attendance was fuelled primarily by more visitors from France and Spain. Overall, an increase in French and Spanish visitors was
slightly offset by a reduction in UK visitors. With 15.4 million combined visitors to the resort’s Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park in the fiscal year of 2009, it is France’s and Europe’s most visited tourist site.
Maurer takes spinning coaster to Rome park
MAURER Rides, the theme parks division of German engineering conglomerate Maurer Söhne Group, has successfully installed a new Spinning Coaster ride at the soon-to-be-opened Rainbow Magic Land near Rome, Italy. Occupying the site of the old Terra Magica theme park,
the €200m (US$254m) Rainbow Magic Land resort is scheduled to open early next year, and recent images taken of the site suggest construction is on track.

THEMING and design specialist Meticulous has completed a new interactive maze attraction at Drusillas Park in East Sussex, UK, which is understood to be proving a great success with visitors. With a brief to create a maze based attraction to replace
the old Bug World at the venue, and one that was different to other mazes, Meticulous developed the Eden’s Eye concept, a new, sensory maze quest based on the four Elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water. “We wanted the maze to be a ‘themed delight’,”
explained Meticulous director Dean Weal, “which visitors could really enjoy losing themselves in, not a frustrating waste of time like so many of the mazes we visited while doing our research. “We particularly wanted to use unexpected, magical
features, like the talking statue, to give clues and a magic lamp on the fire path that guests rub to hear another clue and which gives off a smoke effect.”
Maurer has been enlisted to develop an
X-Car Launch Coaster and an indoor/outdoor SC3000 Spinning Coaster with a base area of 40m x 60m. “We have handed the SC over to the
customer as ‘ready for testing,’ and it should be ready for the park opening, which is scheduled for spring 2011, with seven S-Cars and a capacity of 850 people per hour,” the company said.
