UK seaside venues add 4D effects

TWO UK seaside venues have opened exciting new family attractions for the 2010 season from 4D effects theatre specialist Simworx. The Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare and Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach on the

Suffolk coast, have both added new 4D effects theatres from the UK-based specialist. Devastated by a fire in July 2008, the Grand Pier is is due

to re-open shortly following a £51m rebuilding programme, which includes state-of-the-art rides and attractions. Among these is a new 51-seat 4D effects theatre from Simworx, which has completed a full turnkey project, incorporating the theatre into the new Pavilion building. “Having decided to install a 4D theatre, Simworx was

the clear winner when it came to choosing a supplier,” said pier owner Kerry Michael. “We are delighted with the results and I’m sure our visitors will enjoy the experience for many years to come.” At Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach, Simworx has

installed a 30-seat 4D effects theatre which is the first such attraction in the area. Opened in June, the attraction is housed in an existing building which previously accommodated a simulator ride from another supplier and has been totally revamped with the latest technology relating to the new theatre.

New deals for photo systems group

FOTOU, the UK-based theme park photography systems specialist, recently acquired two new contracts, as the company continues to embrace new technologies and hone its client offering. The group, which provides a comprehensive set of

solutions for theme park and attractions operators, has installed a new photo system in the vortex tunnel at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! in London. “The tunnel is a walkthrough spinning tunnel which

gives the visitor the illusion that they are revolving due to the tunnel spinning all around them,” said the company’s Jon Sprank. “We have installed an infrared sensor linked to a camera and flash unit that captures visitors at the optimum moment. “They then exit the tunnel,” he continued, “and the

images captured are shown on two large 50-inch screens. This has made the camera system an attraction in its own right, with people repeatedly going through the tunnel and viewing the pictures.” Elsewhere, FotoU

has also acquired an installation contract with Cardiff
