Caroline Maessen Open to Question
CM: Members of staff are motivated themselves to do the best job they possibly can. That is because I blindly trust them and that is the best incentive I can give them.
IP: How will Toverland develop in the future? Will you continue with developments both indoor and outdoor? CM: Both inside and outside we continually keep growing. In this we are trying to find the right balance.
an attraction, but also on the complete theming of the attraction itself. The entire picture has to be right.
IP: What are the theme park industry’s biggest challenges at the present time? CM: Remaining original and keeping track of the entrance fees. Several parks ‘outmarket’ themselves by asking exceptionally low entrance fees. This is a bad thing for the industry.
IP: How important is it for operators to create a strong brand identity? Is this something that is important at Toverland? CM: It is incredibly important to create a strong brand identity and this is very important for Toverland. How do we stand out among all the other quality parks surrounding us?
IP: Do you think it is necessary for parks to invest in new attractions every year or can other things be done to keep people coming back? CM: Very regularly we have to invest in new attractions, but organising good events continually and taking care that your quality is good every day are also very important.
IP: How important to an attraction’s marketing strategy are new ways of reaching potential visitors – such as email, cell phones, websites, blogs, etc. - compared to more traditional methods? Do they offer ‘must do’ alternatives? CM: New ways are becoming more and more important. At the moment a new generation is growing up with these new social media and we will have to react to this.
IP: What’s been Toverland’s most successful attraction in terms of return on investment? CM: Our woody, Troy. With its length of 1,040m, height of 35m and top speed of 90 kph, it is one of the best wooden European coasters.
IP: How do you incentivise your staff to do the best job they possibly can?
