Summer boost for P&P

THIS summer has seen Dutch theming group P&P Projects enter the final development stages of several high- profile installations.

After working closely with designers

based at Efteling Park, the group has successfully completed work on two new attractions: Joris en de Draak (George and the Dragon), which has become the park’s largest roller coaster, and the Fairytale Tree animatronic attraction.

“Both attractions are now open and

after looking at fansites both have been well received,” said P&P founder Philipp van Stratum. “It is always great fun to read the fansites, because of the speculation that is going on prior to the opening of attractions and then to read about the result.

“We monitored the fansites when we were building the dragon. At first there were quite a few people who did not expect much

of the attraction and then when the first ‘spy’ pictures went online it was wonderful to see that scepticism turned into sheer enthusiasm. As for the Fairytale Tree, I went up there with my two girls and it was good to see that there was a crowd listening to the tree’s storytelling.”

Once more, P&P has demonstrated its

ability to successfully realise major park projects in a short period of time. For the Efteling installations, the group was working to an extremely tight schedule, as a great deal of work was required - from road works and infrastructure to landscaping, hydraulics and pyrotechnics.

P&P has also been heavily involved with

the soon-to-open Ferrari World indoor theme park in Abu Dhabi. The company was entrusted with completing scenic production for two major dark rides, one which provides a historic overview of iconic racing cars and their drivers, and another which is a factory tour providing visitors with an idea of Ferrari’s production methods.

“Our work involved a lot of scenic productions and replica cars which was the

biggest challenge,” van Stratum noted. “Towards the end of production our workshop looked more like a Ferrari car collector’s

storage

(area) than a scenic workshop. In September we will pay a last inspection visit to Abu Dhabi to make sure that we ourselves are satisfied with the work we have done.”

P&P has already started receiving

proposals for the 2011 season, and the group is currently in full production of a new children’s visitor centre for the Roshen chocolate and candy manufacturing company in Ukraine.

“We have the design-build contract for

this interactive experience in the city of Vinnitsa and a contract for a larger version planned for the capital, Kiev,” said van Stratum. “In addition, we recently started working on the 3DBA Lego interactive ride for Merlin Entertainments in the city of Dallas, US, and have a project for Walibi World in the Netherlands.”
