Classic family board game returns to consoles and gets streetwise to celebrate its 75th birthday…

by Billy Langsworthy

FOR ITS 75TH birthday, Monopoly leaves its board game roots and heads to consoles in Monopoly Streets. This is a game that for the first time gives players the opportunity to handle property in a fully animated city, explored from a street level.

After experiencing a tour of the city from the Monopoly man himself, players can witness the city expand and change with every deal and purchase. Using classic board elements and animated pieces, players go head-to-head against others in a bid to own the city and amass the most money.

Players can opt to outbid others in a new auction system either locally or through PSN and Xbox Live. Alongside these new online capabilities, the game also introduces the ability to customise rules. This allows users to play the classic board game however they like, by mixing and matching rules.

The board pieces have also been transformed into real characters, with the hat turning into a banker and the dog represented as a chic city woman with a pet pooch. With difficulty levels and controls that make the dice rolling, buying, selling and trading of property as simple as playing its board game cousin, Monopoly Streets is a title that gamers of all ages and abilities can pick up and engage with.

By combining the classic board game with the impressive effects of an ever- changing cityscape, Monopoly Streets provides consumers with a classic treat perfectly adapted to home consoles.
