Modernizing with Powerful, Digital Black-and-White Printers

Zebra Print Solutions installed two Océ VarioPrint 6200 duplex cutsheet systems to replace three of its existing devices hen leading

tions, chances are they turn to Zebra Print Solutions, located in the fast- growing Research Triangle Park area outside of Raleigh/Durham, NC. The full service print provider specializes in comprehensive logistical support and rapid delivery of complex, high- volume marketing and training mate- rials.

technol-

ogy, medical and edu- cational firms need communication solu-

data printing, mailing, fulfillment, advertising specialties and printshop management. Two years ago, the Zebra manage- ment team decided to modernize its print infrastructure with new powerful black-and-white printers that would improve uptime, reliability and deliver excellent quality with robust through- put and faster speed. It wanted soft- ware that would simplify the conver- sion of hundreds of Xerox RDO files. And they wanted prepress workflow software that would further automate production. The firm found its partner in Océ.

The new hardware and software systems were installed in the fall of 2008. The first order of business was to convert a massive library of Xerox RDO files and their DigiPath and Freeflow Makeready job tickets into open standard PDF files using Océ DPConvert software.

Productivity increases Zebra Print Solutions installed two

Océ VarioPrint 6200 digital duplex cutsheet printers to replace three of its existing systems. With a speed of 200 letter-sized prints per minute, the Océ VarioPrint 6200 systems produce output up to 30% faster than the pre- vious equipment—with better uptime and less environmental impact. The Océ VarioPrint 6200 systems are pow- ered by Océ Gemini Instant Duplex technology, which prints both sides of a page in a single pass. The result is higher productivity, offset-class qual- ity, near-perfect registration, and more efficiency than conventional devices that run paper through the engine twice to print both sides of the page. Zebra Print Solutions implemented Océ PRISMAprepare document prep- aration software to streamline job def- inition, preparation, proofing and tab production. “With Océ PRISMApre- pare, we can construct, define, proof and benchmark an entire job ahead of time. So, when the client says go, all we do is print,” says Pat DiLeonardo, president of Zebra Print.

Millions of impressions Océ PRISMAprepare software is an all-in-one document preparation solution designed to speed up job preparation, making it easy to perform prepress tasks like creating booklets, impositioning, color splitting and merging, and adding trim marks for complex jobs. Users can preview every step in the preparation process on screen, eliminating the need for hard copy proofing while making it easy to assign media attributes, define tabs and tab captions, create inserts,

add blank pages and more at the click of a mouse. Today, in addition to a sophisticated mix of digital and offset devices, the 17,000 sq. ft. facility uses its new Océ equipment to produce between two and four million black-and-white impressions per month. “We love the Océ VarioPrint 6200 systems,” says Charlotte DiLeonardo, CEO of Zebra Print. “With the simultaneous duplex- ing, generous capacity and reliabil- ity, we’ve increased productivity and lowered costs. We can process coated and pre-punched stock and handle just about any job that comes our way.” Today, the print operation is more productive than ever. Océ PRISMA- prepare prepress software allows us to set up all aspects of a job ahead of time,” adds Charlotte. “So when we have to get a job out the door in 24 hours, we’ve done all the setup work ahead of time. All the hard work of proofing, specifying, setting up is done. And the print quality is excel- lent—the best black-and-white quality in the industry.” An added benefit is the system’s

environmentally sustainable perfor- mance which is based on the com- pany’s “keep it green” philosophy. Because the machine generates less heat, the firm’s cooling and energy costs are reduced and its operation is quiet. “We’ve had cases where the machine is so quiet, the only way we know it’s running is that the light is green,” says Pat DiLeonardo. “The quiet operation makes for a much calmer working environment.” “It takes less equipment to do the job and the printers are much more energy-efficient,” Pat points out. “So our electric bills are lower. We’re experiencing greater uptime, more productivity and the operators love them. What it all comes down to is this: we don’t want to be an adequate print provider. We want to be a won- derful solutions provider. With the Océ equipment and partnership we can achieve that goal.”
