Food Safety
Colin Banks, director of International Food Safety, education consultant/tutor for ITCA Education talks about ITCA workshops and challenges members on food safety

Since leaving British Airways some 10 years ago, I have continued to support the airline and catering Industries in their day to day monitoring of Food Safety Management services and standard operating procedures. Sadly, due to economic reasons, there has been
a considerable reduction in expert hands-on food safety support, those with responsibility for ensuring a food safe product and an acceptable
cases at great expense, QA Accreditation from registered organisations and yet we are still seeing failure in HACCP concepts and basic food safety and environmental issues. ITCA Education has, over the years, successfully
dealt with a lot of these issues by hands-on motivation and support through a succession of Workshops. To date in excess of 1000 delegates have attended the courses. We have learned a great deal from those delegates and through our work in the industry and we aim to bring all of these issues within the content of our workshops. We give our delegates ample opportunity to
control service of environmental hygiene. We are now very much in a world of paperwork auditing and unannounced hygiene inspections and ‘on the job’ and continuous support training is badly lacking We see great emphasis on obtaining, in most
ITCA Food Safety Workshops
Due to the global crisis ITCA has been unable to arrange any Food Safety courses over the past twelve months. However, at the beginning of this year several approaches were made and the following workshops are now being organised or planned:
WORKSHOP IN BAKU, KAZAKHSTAN Sky Catering has agreed to sponsor this workshop in its Baku premises and is hoping to attract a minimum of 30 participants. Apply now.
WORKSHOP IN ALMATY, KAZAKHSTAN October 5-7 2010 Air Astana has kindly agreed to sponsor this workshop which will take place in Almaty at Astana’s head office.
WORKSHOP IN CAIRO, EGYPT End of November over three days Sponsored by the flag carrier Egyptair this workshop is still awaiting final confirmation but it is planned for the end of November 2010.
WORKHOP IN ASTANA, KAZAKHSTAN Preliminary discussions are underway with a representative from the Government Hygiene Department which has been allocated money by the Kazakhstan Health Ministry to run a Food Safety Workshop.
WORKSHOP IN RIGA, LATVIA It is hoped that Air Baltic will sponsor a Workshop in Riga in the near future.

we run these workshops at a reasonable cost for delegates but we do believe in our educational input. We are constantly striving to improve and increase the variety of subjects we cover. In the next two years we hope to attract more members from the supply chain and we are very keen to get cabin crew to join our workshops. We look forward to seeing you soon.
