STYC Spring Race
A particularly square line set
by a well prepared, all-volunteer race committee on John and Barbara Endresen’s Blue Lullaby, greeted racers on a fine Saturday morning in Shilshole Bay off the south hamburger buoy. A spritely 5-10 knot northerly, flat water and abundant sunshine; conditions couldn’t have made for a much better spring day to lure boaters out for a circumnavigation of the wild Blake Island. Nineteen boats began racing at a
leisurely 10:00 am and most finished by 3.30 pm, after going clockwise around the island. Either way you rounded the island you had to be careful of the wind shadow at the south end. On the return, with minimal tide, the eastside paid off. Duke Phan’s Q7 Grayling won the
NFS Class 1. Ben Braden’s Moore 24 More Uff Da won line honors as well as Class 2, and Bill Pirrie’s Islander 35 Whistling Swan won Class 3. Complete results can be found on STYC’s website (
