Mid-Sound Summer Social July 8-August 12

Three Tree Point Yacht Club and the

City of Des Moines Marina is sponsoring the Mid-Sound Summer Social. The evening of casual racing, socializing, light meal and refreshments on the dock, and prize awards will be held on six consecutive Thursdays beginning on July 8, and ending on August 12. All are invited to participate in the on-the- water racing in cruiser, beginner, and competitive abilities. Boat owners who are not Yacht Club members are definitely invited. There is no racing entry fee, and participants are encouraged to come to as many nights as they can. Each evening’s on and off the water has an entertaining theme. A special evening for power yachts will be August 5th, see the www.ttpyc.org for details. Because of donations from our major sponsors, we will be providing for evening light meal, as well as donated prizes for the drawings to be held each evening. Prizes are awarded for participation and achievement. Racing starts at 7:00 pm and dinner at 8:30 pm. Besides the fun and camaraderie, this

philanthropic event will be fundraising for Hospitality House and the Des Moines Food Bank. The individual goal is to raise $8,000 which will support four women through their three month program. The goal for the Des Moines Food Bank is to fill two vans with food. Visit www.TTPYC.org/MidSoundSocial.html or call David Garman at (253) 202-9500.

Shaw Island Classic Race August 7

The 40th Annual Shaw Classic is the

high point of summer sailing activities in the San Juan Islands. All boats are grouped into divisions depending upon their type, class, and handicap ratings. The divisions include multihulls, unballasted centerboards, registered PHRF boats and cruising sailboats of all sizes and rigs. The race starts and finishes in Friday

Harbor. The course permits rounding Shaw Island either clockwise or counter- clockwise. A real navigation challenge, as currents, winds and projected boat speed must be factored into an equation to determine which way to round the Island. After the race, awards will be made to the winners in the various categories at the Club’s traditional pasta dinner. Race applications may be obtained

by calling David Dubbell (360) 472-0267 or from the San Juan Island Yacht Club at (360) 378-3434 or downloaded from: www.sjiyc.com. All entries must be mailed to the SJIYC, PO Box 67, Friday Harbor, Washington 72756, or hand delivered at the Club, 273 First Street, no later than 8:00 pm Friday, August 6.
