MBYC has two sailboat race series

each year; the Winter Series and the Spring Regatta. Hosted by the Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club and under the direction of Skipper Doug Penny, Regatta Chairman, the series is open to all who would like to participate. The races are around buoys on Lake Washington in the area bordered by the 520 bridge to the North, I 90 bridge to the South, Seattle to the West and Bellevue to the East. The 2010 January race saw so little

wind that when the time limit horn sounded, the fastest boats were 50 to 300 feet from the finish line.! No one finished and the race was abandoned. The February race saw three, round

the buoy races, with light winds early and filling in to 12 knots for the final race of the day. The Spring Sailing Regatta, was held

on March 27 and 28. Saturday saw light winds allowing for only two races. A nice 12 knot breeze greeted participants for the first race on Sunday morning. The second race had very light puffs from the SW, SE, East, and also from the west and

north. Twenty boats were on 20 tacks. The wind filled in slightly to finish the racing for the day. As part of the Spring Sailing Regatta,

all racers are invited to the MBYC clubhouse for a dinner party on Saturday evening. Nearly 95 sailors enjoyed MBYC hospitality and a roast beef/ salmon dinner prepared by MBYC’s chef, Bob Harvey.

Lunch and awards were presented

on Sunday afternoon in the MBYC clubhouse. MBYC invites all sailors to come
