Darwin says: If you want to go cruising
with a gal you're a wooing, Dirty sails will take the romance out of sailing
Sailing is all about
romance

course management, but going into the last race we squandered our ten point lead and basically had a three way tie with Harry Dursch's Self Abuse and Pat Toole's 3 Big Dogs (from Santa Barbara). Luckily it was a long race, very tight at the first top mark and we were in the top half of the fleet, but Harry and Pat were right with us. Down to the leeward mark we caught a break, were inside on a 5 or 6 boat rounding and had a pretty good lane to the right. The second beat was long with the tide kicking in and we were able to leg out, rounding the top mark right behind Steve Travis who went way left and stayed in the westerly long enough to pass a dozen boats to round first. We held on to the second spot to capture the Western Regional, NOODs, and were named boat of the regatta! Hot Pursuit won a trip to play in the BVIs with all the other top boats from the
NOOD Regattas across the country! The winner of the other large one
design class, the Melges 24s had a bit of an easier time of it. Matt Macgregor and crew kept a pretty comfortable point margin during the three day marathon and were able to score a 17 point win over Dan Kasseler on Pteron, last years NOOD winner. The San Juan 21s have made the
NOOD Regatta in Seattle a must attend event, and it seems that no one has figured out how Kermit has so much speed in the spinnaker division. The 505s had some great sailors with
Carol Buchan, just surviving to beat Moth sailor Dalton Bergan with SYC coach and wife Jen and Ben Glass. The Perennial Thistle favorite, Terry Lettenemeir, was the class of that class and Gill Lund took the San Juan 24 class.
