→ PayPal Mobile
This is a mobile extension of PayPal’s exis�ng online payments pla�orm. It will require the
par�cular travel company to use PayPal already as its payment provider for this to be an op�on. It
works where a travel consumer accesses their PayPal account through your mobile portal and the
payment confirma�on is enhanced by addi�onal security via a PIN code that is required to confirm
payments made through the mobile.

→ Transac�on-enabled mobile websites
This mPayments/mTransac�ons technology involves the direct processing of payments for travel
products through the mobile website. This is the most direct way to offer your customers the ability
to make payments through the mobile phone.
In terms of security for making payments through mobile websites the following explana�on helps
to clarify the solu�on:
“In general, SSL security works for mobile in the same way it does for the web. The only difference
is that the so�ware pla�orm is ac�ng as a “transcoding proxy” between the handset and your
backend server which hosts the mobile portal applica�on. This means that there can be an SSL
connec�on between the handset and the so�ware pla�orm on the one hand and between the
so�ware pla�orm and your backend server on the other hand, which means that the traffic is
secured, but it is not a direct end-to-end security between the handset and your backend server (but
usually this is not an issue). But there are some specific requirements if end users type in credit card
informa�on in the mobile portal: Depending on the number of transac�ons that will be processed
through the portal, there might be a need to design the en�re solu�on to be PCI compliant (more
info: www.pcicomplianceguide.org) which requires a significant amount of �me and effort. An
alterna�ve could be to have end users only enter credit card informa�on on your website, and when
paying for something on the mobile portal only enter a login and password. In this case you would
also avoid having end users typing in their CC informa�on in public”.

→ Click-and-buy (think of iTunes):
This is the ability to make payments through mobile with only one click and would work in
a similar way to iTunes. A consumer sets up an account, registers all details, then each �me
they want to buy something with a merchant that supports click-and-buy, it is one click
confirma�on and then the cost of the purchase is added to their credit/debit card bill. This has
not yet been rolled out to mobile but is a rapidly developing area, that when combined with
adequate mobile security, could offer an a�rac�ve, simple and convenient way for customers to
snap up last minute travel deals on their mobile.
