lp-1 drugs used to treat obesity and Type 2 diabetes may also
help treat several inflammatory skin conditions, according to a scientific review published in Pharmaceutics. Researchers found that GLP-1
receptor agonists may benefit people with psoriasis, atopic dermatitis (eczema), hidradenitis suppurativa, and chronic wounds. Studies suggest the drugs reduce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including TNF-alpha, IL-6, and IL-17, which play key roles in psoriasis and other

Medical Center study of nearly 60,000 adults found that in addition to losing more weight, those taking semaglutide experienced about 15% fewer fractures than those taking other weight-loss medications.
inflammatory skin diseases. “Today, we know that psoriasis
and atopic dermatitis are not merely skin diseases,” says MaĆgorzata Ponikowska, M.D., of Wroclaw Medical University. “The chronic inflammation associated with them can affect the functioning of the entire body and increase the risk of developing other conditions, particularly metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.” Increasing evidence indicates
GLP-1 drugs such as semaglutide (Wegovy) may modulate immune responses rather than merely influence metabolism, according to Ponikowska. The medications may promote skin repair, which could be especially beneficial for people with diabetes who often struggle with chronic wounds.
Weight-Loss Drugs Lower Breast Cancer Risk
esearchers at Penn Medicine
analyzed the health records of 111,646 overweight women and found that those who took GLP-1 medications — including Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro,
and Victoza — had about a 30% lower risk of developing breast cancer than those who did not take the drugs. The researchers
believe the benefit may be related to the medications’ anti- inflammatory effects.

Chronic, low-grade inflammation is thought to contribute to the development of breast cancer, and GLP-1 drugs have been shown to reduce inflammation throughout the body.
the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, older adults with moderate depression were randomly assigned to receive either a daily probiotic or a placebo for 12 weeks. Participants who took probiotics
experienced meaningful reductions in symptoms of depression and anxiety, while those who took a placebo did not.
AUTISM: ANXIETY RISES WITH AGE A study published in Nature Mental Health
found that while most middle-aged and older adults reported consistently low levels of anxiety, those with higher levels of autistic traits were much more likely to experience worsening anxiety over time. During the eight-year study, participants with high autistic traits were four times more likely to report a significant increase in anxiety than those without autistic traits.
CANCER: ASTHMA DRUG MAY FIGHT AGGRESSIVE CANCER Montelukast (Singulair), a drug
commonly used to treat asthma and allergies, may also fight aggressive cancers, such as triple-negative breast cancer. A study published in Nature
Cancer found that montelukast blocks a molecule called CysLTR1, which spurs asthma and inflammation. Blocking the CysLTR1 pathway slowed tumor growth, improved survival, and restored response to immunotherapy, even in tumors that had already stopped responding to treatment.
LIVER: NAPS MAY INCREASE RISK OF CHRONIC LIVER DISEASE People with Type 2 diabetes who nap longer than 30 minutes daily increase their risk of developing metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Researchers at China’s Wenzhou Medical University followed 1,900 adults with Type 2 diabetes for three years. “Our work suggests long naps independently
increase the likelihood of MASLD in individuals with Type 2 diabetes,” said Xuejiang Gu, M.D., Ph.D. “However, poor nocturnal sleep combined with long naps more than triples MASLD risk.”
