Wales Hodge Bank celebrates record year of lending

As it reflects on its most successful year of commercial lending to date, Hodge knows 2019 is likely to be a tougher nut to crack.

In a year where the bank funded projects ranging from the creation of residential properties and purpose-built student accommodation, to the development of restaurants and office space, clients and lender alike are happy with the outcomes of the past 12 months.

IESIS Group Ltd, appreciates the tailored approach taken by the team at Hodge. Having worked together for a decade, they know and trust the team and are already looking to the next project Hodge will be funding.

During 2018 the bank also contributed to the ongoing redevelopment of Cardiff, funding the city centre’s first residential development in 10 years from developers Portabella.

The opportunity to finance the development of the site is something Hodge Bank’s Head of Origination Gareth Davies has been particularly excited about, he said: “The Brickworks’ scheme has breathed fresh life into an area previously dominated by industrial occupiers.

“The addition of warehouse-style apartments is a much-needed addition to the area and we’re delighted to have supported a local developer with this innovative scheme.”

As Hodge looks to the year ahead in what will be a fair trickier climate, there’s a quiet optimism within the team.

Gareth added: “The external, political headwinds create a less certain picture for the real estate market over the next 12 months, although given our existing workload and the current commitment from our customers, we remain cautiously optimistic about the future.”

Iestyn Lewis, CEO of IESIS Group Ltd, said: “Over the past 10 years funding from Hodge Bank has enabled us to transform communities with the creation of new homes, student accommodation and office space.

“Its commitment to creating a bespoke service has made it the perfect fit for us and allowed IESIS Group Ltd to focus on the finer details of each project to ensure we succeed.

“With a decade of successful projects together already done, we look forward to kickstarting the next stage of our development strategy with Hodge.”
