The Midlands Swadlincote South Derbyshire

The Swadlincote Townscape Heritage Scheme is nearing its conclusion with fantastic opportunities for food & drink operators. Since 2015, £400,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund has been provided as grants to assist property owners to renovate historic frontages in the Derbyshire town’s bustling centre.

Swadlincote was once a centre for the ceramics industry, home to the iconic blue and white striped Cornishware from the TG Green pottery. Today the town is at the heart of The National Forest, which attracts over 8 million visitors each year.

Large scale housebuilding means the area now boasts one of the fastest growing populations in the country. This has been matched by business investment with unemployment falling to just 0.9%. There are opportunities to expand the town’s food & drink offer and grow the evening economy, with scope for new cafés, bars, micropubs and restaurants to serve the growing numbers of residents and visitors.

Current retail vacancies include No.1 West Street (Agent: Johnson Fellows) and No.2 Midland Road (Agent: Salloway), both properties having benefited from extensive works through the Townscape programme, together with the ‘Chimney Building’ (Hepworth Retail Park) refurbished as part of The Pipeworks retail and leisure scheme (Agent: Innes England).
