Mack Rides I

n the coming year, German designer of amusement rides Mack will finish construction on ICON at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in the UK, set to open April 2018.

Xtreme Spinning Coaster Time Traveler will open up at Silver Dollar City next year,

and the retrofit of the Eurosat at Europa-Park, featuring new track and new trains and a virtual reality experience, is set to be completed by summer. In summer 2018, a Slinky Dog Dash Coaster is scheduled to open at Disney’s

Hollywood Studios in Florida as part of Toy Story Land and a hyper coaster will open at the Land of Legends Theme Park in Turkey, near the city of Antalya. The latter, a clone of Flash at Lewa Adventure in China, is believed to hold the record for the tallest vertical loop, at a height of 160 feet. Also opening is a boat ride at Toverland in the Netherlands; a Peppa Pig ride at Paulton’s Park in the UK, and a Twist & Splash at Parques Reunidos in Madrid.

Polin Waterparks

Launched at IAE, Polin’s new thrill offering Mantis (pictured) is a Class-A waterslide in which riders race one another on twin-symmetrical slides. Riders enter from a height of 9 metres (29 feet) via the tower platform. Traveling through a closed tube at speeds of up to 36 km/h (22 mph), they shoot into a wide, open bowl. Their momentum hurtles them around the giant concave curve and then into a short, enclosed tunnel before they shoot into a run-out or splash pool. Guests at the Polin booth at IAE could ‘test ride’ four of the manufacturer’s most popular slides using new simulators, including virtual-reality (VR) waterslide simulator Splash VR, which won the first place Brass Ring award for best new technology applied to amusements. It provides a virtual-reality experience for waterpark guests without requiring a park to retrofit any aspect of an existing waterslide. Guests wear the wireless, waterproof VR headsets as they ride a waterslide to experience a unique journey, such as exploring the Lost City of Atlantis.

MaxFlight

Showcased with great success at IAAPA, the MaxFlight simulator gives riders the experience of flying a virtual plane over a small island. With complete inversions and twists,

CEO Frank McClintic

told Park World: “Our surveys during the show put the VR unit in the 98% approval range which is

pretty high for any product these days. We noticed people were not shy about the full motion aspect and they

exercised that technology to the max. “Giving people the ability of full interaction and full body sensory feel for

whatever attitude they are in is key. Sitting still in front of a desk and doing this type of thing does not work. The dis-correlation between what you are seeing and what your body is feeling sitting with zero motion will never work.”

ProSlide

ProSlide’s new product introductions for 2018 include RallyRacer, the hybrid HydroMagnetic Rocket/FlyingSaucer 40, and FlyingSaucer 45. The latter will see installations at Hershey Park, USA, and Shinwha World Jeju in South Korea, among others. Winner of IAAPA’s Best New Water Park Ride, the Double Tornado Wave 60

will reportedly see five or six more openings over the next couple of years, including Shinwha World Jeju and Beach Park, in Aquiraz, Brazil. Major development is set to take place in China, with numerous ProSlide products opening at $1.6 billion destination resort Atlantis Sanya, Hainan Island, set to open in June 2018. The Evergrande Group’s upcoming resort development Ocean Flower Island in Sanya will also see significant Proslide development. Prospective products include RocketBLAST water coasters.

Right: Waldameer & Water World, Pennsylvania, will be installing a ProSlide Octopus six-man racing slide. Work will begin in early September 2018 for the 2019 season.
