Sky Rocket opens at Chimelong Paradise

C

himelong Paradise theme park in Guangzhou, China entertained guests during the National Day holiday with the debut of its high- thrill, high-tech launch roller coaster, the Sky Rocket. Commissioned

by parent company Chimelong Group, the multi-launch roller coaster was designed and manufactured by Premier Rides. The dramatic layout of the triple-launch coaster is the first of its kind in Asia, and features one of the highest inversions in Asia. At nearly 50 metres (164ft) high, riders will experience lightning speeds of 100kph (62 mph), multiple launches, a twisting heartline inversion, ascending and descending twists, and two vertical rolls. After an initial slingshot launch using Premier Rides’ magnetic launch technology, riders execute a vertical ascent of approximately 20 metres (66ft), and then drop back through the station where they are accelerated backwards to a height of 25 metres (82ft). After a brief cliffhanger pause, the train rockets through the station and is accelerated to a height of 50 metres (164ft). The train then slows for dramatic effect, allowing guests to appreciate how high they are, while anticipating an amazing twisted heartline roll directly ahead. After executing the roll, the train is braked before guests enter a face-

first vertical twisting drop, ending in an over the top loop where riders will experience the force of approximately 3½ Gs. The riders then drop to ground level, where they again shoot through the station and then smoothly come to a stop as they drop backward into the station.

Flightcycle Debuts

When riding Dynamic Attractions latest attraction, the Dynamic Flightcycle, revealed at the recent IAE expo in Orlando, passengers sit forward in a motorcycle-like racing position and are surrounded by a massive concave screen. In an enhancement of the popular Dynamic Flying Theatre, riders lean into the action with their torso-forward on a cycle-style ‘flying’ vehicle instead of sitting with their backs against a chair. This position changes the rider’s perspective both physically and emotionally and heightens their ability to perceive speed and motion, plus providing a fuller perspective of the story unfolding below. It is suited to more intense action media and theming, and is currently available

with the Dragon Rider package, in which warriors ride on the backs of dragons to lay siege to their enemy’s city, flying, soaring, and swooping through the towers and canyons in a medieval, other-world adventure filled with flames and action.

Efteling increases accessibility

In spring 2018, Efteling’s top attraction Dreamflight (Droomvlucht) will also be accessible for disabled visitors through virtual reality. At present, Droomvlucht is the only top attraction at the Dutch fairytale theme park that, for safety reasons, is not accessible for handicapped visitors. The indoor dark ride Droomvlucht offers a flight through a world of dreams and fairytales, where fairies and forest animals come to life. In ‘virtual Droomvlucht’ all senses are teased with virtual reality and other techniques. Disabled visitors see, feel, smell and hear the same as the rest of their party, who are experiencing the attraction at the same time. Besides the VR goggles, visitors are connected with their party by headphones and microphones, so they can experience the attraction together. The concept was invented by one of Efteling’s employees.
