Interactive waterslide video game experience


Five new rides at Diggerland


N


ew Jersey construction-themed attraction Diggerland has broken ground on a multi-million dollar, seven-plus acre expansion, the largest capital improvement the construction-themed amusement park has seen since


opening its doors in 2014. Park guests will find five new attractions, the largest of which includes a 700-foot (213m) Soaring Eagle Zip Line, spanning nearly the entire footprint of the park. Riders will experience heights up to 130 feet (40 m) off the ground, flying over the property in pairs. Other additions include a corporate


events and groups pavilion; a climate controlled dining and party pavilion for birthday celebrations; an expanded parking infrastructure and upgrades to the Diggerland XL program – a heavy machinery experience for adults


with one-on-one instruction and package options that include thrills such as car smashing with an excavator. The project is targeted for completion at the end of March.

Pioneering facial recognition for the leisure and attractions industry


Launched at IAE 2017, Picsolve’s new digital platform uses facial recognition technology to allow content at an attraction to be identified and organised, presenting visitors with their own personalised digital album. This gives consumers the opportunity to immediately purchase the images, with the option of sharing instantly on social media, or enjoy and share content retrospectively by accessing the link and purchasing the content after their visit. Destination visitors select their image from an


existing photo or selfie upload. If they opt in, during the rest of their visit Picsolve’s advanced association technology identifies them at multiple content creation points using facial recognition. Picsolve’s new digital platform can link content


created by advanced ride capture, roaming photographers, queue-line green screen experiences, and even its patented video Experience Wall.

Kalahari Resorts and Conventions, Sandusky, Ohio, has introduced a new interactive gaming experience called the Storm Chaser. From WhiteWater, this slideboarding adventure combines the thrill of a waterslide with the challenge of a multilevel video game. The new attraction integrates gaming, skill, speed and competition into an experience that will define waterparks of the future. The Storm Chaser features a targeted gaming system where riders use a controller to play as they ride a slideboard down the waterslide run. The object of the game is to hit targets to collect points, while maintaining your speed. The super-smart gaming system knows who you are, tracks your progress and scores your run down the waterslide. Cutting-edge motion tracking allows for more points to be scored based on the player’s accuracy and proximity to the targets when intersected. The unique tracking system lets riders build points throughout the day to unlock new levels and compete for the highest overall score.


Longleat’s Festival of Light


Longleat’s Festival of Light, open to the public until 7 January 2018, uses a display of 3,000 Chinese lanterns to transform the estate into a winter wonderland. Visitors can wander through settings depicting famous scenes from Snow


White, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, The Snow Queen and Beauty and the Beast. At 25.5m, Sleeping Beauty’s Castle is the largest lantern ever constructed


for the event and a total of 30,000m of silk have been used to create the displays – enough to wrap around Longleat House 124 times. The lanterns have been created by a team of artists from Zigong in


China’s Sichuan province, which has been staging lantern festivals for more than 2,000 years.
