pryder@datateam.co.uk EDITORIAL READY AND WAITING
In this micromobility edition of BikeBiz last year, I wrote: “The uptake of sustainable transport is as important as ever. “When the time comes for governments and authorities to acknowledge this, the bike industry stands ready to drive that shift forward.” One year on and we find ourselves in the same position. While it would be remiss of me to
have expected a major shift in just 12 months, some sense of direction and guidance through the minefield of regulations would be welcomed, as would legislation surrounding the use of e-bikes and e-scooters in the UK. The longer we go without this, the bigger the chasm gets for unscrupulous manufacturers
to flood the market with dangerous e-bikes, e-scooters, conversion kits, batteries and chargers. For an everyday consumer the lines are already too blurred. And it will continue to get
worse unless policymakers draw a significant line in the sand. In this edition of the mag, we speak to a number of industry stakeholders about the
current state of play and highlight the important green shoots of opportunity which could burst into life in the near future. I catch up with Peter Kimberley, Group CEO of Tandem Group Trading Ltd, about Electric Life (P7), Zedify CEO and co-founder Rob King talks us through the company’s growth, the hurdles it faces, and how the business plans to play a role in diversifying the sector (P18) and Peter Mildon of VivaCity highlights the importance of local voices when implementing new infrastructure (P49). Elsewhere, Simon Cox sits down with Colin Williams and Alex Dyson of Restrap to discuss
the brand’s omnichannel approach (P32), and we hear from Dan Smith at Fox Factory about all things Ride Concepts (P40) Micromobility will change our lives for the better. The question is, how quickly will it be allowed to?
