he Food Ingredients Europe (FiE) event, a stage where industry giants unveil their latest breakthroughs and forge collaborations, witnessed the dynamic presence
of ADM and Cargill. With a spotlight on cutting-edge innovations, sustainable practices, and consumer-centric strategies, both companies left a lasting impression. Let’s delve into the key highlights and insights from Bastian Hörmann, Global Marketing Director at ADM, and René Berendse, Marketing Associate Director at Cargill, as they share their experiences and visions for the future.
ADM’s Vision: Shaping tomorrow’s food landscape
Bastian Hörmann, representing ADM, highlighted the comprehensive range of capabilities showcased at Fi Europe, covering ingredients and technologies. The star of their show was the vegan cream for sweet and savoury solutions, catering to the surging demand for dairy alternatives. Hörmann emphasised its ability to deliver the desired mouthfeel and texture synonymous with traditional dairy cream. A significant nod came from the Fi Europe Innovation Awards, where ADM’s ES1 probiotic and postbiotic were finalists in the Health Innovation category, reinforcing the company’s commitment to well-being and digestive health. The Women’s Networking Breakfast sponsored by ADM aimed at inspiring women leaders in the industry, fostering
insightful discussions, and building a robust network. This not only showcased ADM’s commitment to diversity but also underlined the importance of collaborative growth within the sector.
In response to industry trends, ADM is poised to leverage insights from Fi Europe to develop on-trend offerings, ranging from tailored food and beverage formats to exploring global flavours and plant-based ingredients. Hörmann highlighted: “Our concepts demonstrate how we’re supporting desires for tailored food, beverage and supplement formats – from gummies featuring three biotics to culinary dishes and desserts exploring global flavours and plant- based ingredients.”

expressed the company’s delight in being a go-to partner for customers with cutting- edge food ambitions. FiE 2023 provided the platform for Cargill to unveil its Food Solutions, emphasising a co-creation journey with customers and showcasing sustainability initiatives at scale. The Cargill Caramel Selection, a highlight of their product launches, featured four varieties of white chocolate confectionery with unique blends of caramelised ingredients. Berendse noted, “Differentiating through sustainability at scale offers new opportunities for our customers,” as Cargill showcased advancements in regenerative agriculture and breakthroughs in the life cycle assessment of ingredients. Cargill’s response to industry trends is
clear—balancing pure indulgence with the health-affordability-sustainability triangle. The company showcased innovative prototypes addressing plant-based meat alternatives and dairy alternatives, aligning with the evolving consumer preferences. Engaging with attendees at FiE, Cargill received positive feedback on its Food Solutions setup. Berendse stated: “It confirmed that our new Food Solutions setup is off to a great start and acknowledged to help our customers meet and exceed their commercial and sustainability goals.”
