I am delighted to bring to you our March edition of Kennedy’s Confection, a household name in the confectionery industry due to its long-standing history with the Kennedy family. As with many things however, the need to adapt and develop oneself is a necessary part of evolution and growth, and that is exactly where the focus was when this title was taken over under the Datateam Business Media umbrella last year. And with new ownership, has come myself as the new Editor of the magazine. Being no stranger to the industry means I am fortunate to work with many familiar faces, and I was lucky enough to re-introduce myself at ProSweets in Cologne earlier this year, which proved to be successful despite concerns of the pandemic. Read my full coverage and exhibitor comments in our review on page 18. And for further insight, I also spoke to Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse about navigating digitalisation alongside the reintroduction of face- to-face events, you can find the full interview on page 6. We really took onboard the comments and suggestions the industry made of

what engages you as a reader, and with this in mind my first edition includes more in-depth features, more of your expert voices and inclusivity across the entire confectionery industry, from raw materials, packaging technology and even a closer look at the end-products. Find our first retail focus with the charming Gemma Whitaker on page 42. Going forward we will be including exclusive market insight from key professionals, regional focuses and much larger events coverage. Remember to subscribe and follow us on social media to keep updated on all of these changes! Despite the excitement I have for taking the reins of Kennedy’s, like many of

you, my thoughts are overcome with the Russian assault on Ukraine. And, as the conflict escalates, international companies are announcing their support by suspending business with Russia. Mondelēz International has said it is providing humanitarian aid in the region, starting with a $500,000 donation through both financial and in-kind contributions. Schenck Process put out a statement that read: “We stand together with the people of Ukraine in these desperately challenging times. It is impossible not to be shocked by the tragic scenes we are all witnessing. Our thoughts are with all those affected across the region. The safety and well-being of our employees and their families is our prime focus and we will do whatever we can to support them in this hour of need amidst the devastation.” I am incredibly proud of the unflinching support and aid our industry has

shown, and the outpouring of love and defiance amongst such hate. As business continues, as it must, it is humbling to be reminded of our humanity.
