RETAILER PROFILE: DONAGHY BROS Shopfloor
Donaghy Bros was established as an independent family business in 1964 by brothers Sean and Tommy Donaghy, who opened a shop in Kilrea, Northern Ireland, followed by Sean and his other brother Gerard later opening a second shop in nearby Limavady. The business has remained independent and continues to be run by Sean’s two sons, Dermot and James, who have taken over ownership of both stores. Donaghy Bros has witnessed enormous growth since its inception and now enjoys a wide-reaching customer base across Ireland and Great Britain. The retailer has several dedicated demo areas

ERT Award-winning Donaghy Bros celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. From its humble beginnings, the business has come a long way, now operating across two state- of-the-art showrooms in Northern Ireland. MD, James Donaghy, tells us more…
across the two stores, including Samsung and Miele cookery zones and Quooker tap demo areas. Last year it invested over £2 million in the relaunch of its 16,000sq ft Limavady showroom, showcasing over 750 products with premium bespoke brand displays. As well as this, it has increased its van fleet to assist with providing its next-day delivery and installation service throughout Northern Ireland. Over the years Donaghy Bros has won many
awards; last year was no different. In fact, the retailer picked up two awards at last year’s ERT Awards! Firstly, for Best Independent Domestic Appliances Retailer – Large, and then the coveted Turning Point Award. “Independent retailers like us work really
hard,” Managing Director, James Donaghy, tells ERT. “We were very proud to pick up both those awards. It was particularly poignant because we were approaching 60 years of trading and I am sure that my parents, who both gave so much to this business and to our family, would have also been very proud.”
A customer-centric approach “We have such an amazing team of people who are all dedicated to making Donaghy Bros a success. We invest in our staff and constantly strive for excellence on all levels, and we always aim to offer our customers a top quality service – and this has been recognised by these awards. These achievements are a testament to the passion, commitment and drive of our team.” Mr Donaghy says that the company has
a real customer-centric approach; the staff listen to their customers to continually improve their service and efficiency. And the business is always reinvesting; it is currently spending almost £200,000 on upgrading its ERP system.
