evolving landscape of electrical product safety… Now in its 16th year, the Electrical Product Safety
A
Conference, does exactly this by spotlighting the safety and lifespan of electrical products. Taking place on Thursday 21 November 2024 at Church House, Westminster, London, and hosted by Electrical Safety First and sponsored by UL Standards & Engagement, the theme for this year’s conference is ‘Time for Change,’ which resonates with the electrical industry’s need to adapt in the face of evolving challenges. With a focus on key trends impacting the electrical product industry, attendees can expect a dynamic program featuring engaging presentations, panel discussions and fireside chats.
Key issues put under the spotlight The agenda for this year’s conference addresses current industry challenges and future opportunities. There will be an examination of how the new UK Government will approach ambitious product safety targets highlighted in the recent King’s Speech, and how the Product Regulation and Metrology Bill will be taken forward. We will investigate what the regulator and market surveillance authorities need to support businesses while still protecting consumers within a new regulatory regime. We will also explore the challenges and opportunities in making e-micromobility safer from cradle-to-grave, with a panel discussion offering a range of perspectives and highlighting the need for a collaborative approach.

This will be followed by a session on keeping safety at the forefront of circularity, with an examination of how the evolution of standards and regulatory frameworks support a safer route to compliance and ambitious net zero targets – all while maximising resource and minimising waste.
In addition, with big changes to online marketplace regulations and enforcement on the cards for the UK and already underway globally, we will delve into the challenges being faced and the ambitions for what success will look like. The day will wrap up with a session – hosted by
ERT Editor, Jack Cheeseman – offering a glimpse into the changing electrical world we all live in, looking at issues such as the rise of connected products, digital product data, the race to net zero, and how to empower consumers. Throughout this informative conference, attendees can gain invaluable insights from leading experts on latest trends, technological advancements and regulatory changes. And there is the opportunity to network with more than 200 professionals from diverse sectors, including Government bodies, manufacturers, retailers, importers, legal experts and safety organisations.
2024 Safety Innovation Award The Conference also features the announcement of both the winner and the highly commended entry for the coveted Safety Innovation Award, which recognises and rewards innovators, designers and creators delivering forward- thinking approaches to protecting consumers from electrical danger.
This year sees four shortlisted entries: Buy Safe, a trusted mark for e-mobility devices and batteries which have passed rigorous safety
testing and hold verified audited certifications; BatteryIQ, which traces serial numbers back to the point of manufacture of the specific battery; SafeBatt, which conducts research into lithium- ion battery safety; and PV Stop, a simple, safe and effective way to temporarily de-energise a compromised PV system. Known for unearthing incredible innovations,
the Award offers the winner a unique opportunity to present their idea to the conference audience. The Electrical Product Safety Conference 2024 is an opportunity for those committed to shaping a safer future for electrical products.
