Samsung: ‘We are committed to democratising AI’

40

Samsung’s IFA 2024 showcase highlighted the transformative power of AI, demonstrating how advancements in technology will enhance various aspects of consumers’ lives. Will McGill brings you the latest insights from the tech giant.

S

amsung showcased its vision of “AI for All” at IFA 2024. Its press conference included segments titled “AI Meets the World” and “AI Meets You” where it explained how

its technologies will improve consumers’ lives. “At Samsung, we are committed to democratising AI, to help more people experience its benefits,” said Benjamin Bruan, Chief Marketing Officer at Samsung Europe. “We aim to make the latest Galaxy AI innovation available on as many devices as possible this year, we aim to have 200 million AI-enabled devices in consumer hands.” The theme of Samsung’s IFA ‘AI for All’ spanned

across all its offerings at IFA which included mobile devices, home appliances and home entertainment systems. By the end of 2024, the tech giant expects there will be 200 million Galaxy AI- enabled devices in users’ hands.

Central to this is its expanded SmartThings ecosystem, which connects over 500 million devices, offering

seamless remote control of all Samsung AI- enabled products, from turning the heating on or off, managing all appliances when home or away or navigating Samsung TVs.

Another voice-assistant? Through its Bespoke AI appliances, Samsung is enhancing that experience through its updated voice-control system called “Bixby”. The updated “Bixby” can understand multiple commands in one sentence, recall previous context to carry out continuous commands for personalised responses and provide answers to product related questions. It allows users to express their needs more naturally and easily than before.

The voice-assistant also opens up greater

control and accessibility benefits for users. For example, it can access Samsung’s Auto Open Door feature. Consumers can simply say “open the refrigerator door” and it will act accordingly, this is without the need for a wake-up command such as “hi Bixby”. Through its AI advances, Samsung is able to

improve energy efficiency. Whether that’s AI inside appliances such as its refrigerators and washing machines or using AI to unlock the potential of its SmartThings Eco System to save more energy.

Samsung revealed its Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, the All-in-One washer and dryer combo is a single space efficient appliance that finishes the wash and dry cycle in one queue. The wash cycle not only meets but surpasses the minimum energy efficiency requirements for the A-grade rating by up to 20 per cent, and the wash and dry cycle combined also meets the A-grade rating. This performance is achieved through advanced heat pump drying technology, which dries clothes quickly, gently and efficiently at lower temperatures.

What else? Katharina Mayer, Samsung Head of LifeStyle Lab Europe - Digital Appliances, said: “We want everyone everywhere to be able to access the products and services, entertainment, and experiences that they want and need. That’s why our Bespoke AI appliances are equipped with features to help all of us overcome barriers in our daily life.

“When it comes to refrigerators, Samsung has been exploring new ways to save energy while maintaining cooling performance. To do this, our new AI hybrid refrigerator combines two power sources, a compressor and Peltier cooling technology.

“This means that when the fridge uses a little

more energy than usual, for example, when you leave the fridge door open for longer, the Peltier components work as an extra cooling source to improve the overall energy efficiency.” The brand has also teamed up with Universal

Pictures with the launch of Wicked the movie, “drawing inspiration from the much loved story about finding the true potential”.

Stephanie Chosen, Samsung Brand and

Product Marketing Manager, explained: “The Wicked music frame is an exclusive, limited edition with a themed frame designed to bring out the magic of the movie right into your home. “The music frame has multiple speakers, a built-in subwoofer, Dolby Atmos, Bluetooth, Wi- Fi, Amazon Alexa, Google Procast, Spotify and Apple Airplay. And it looks absolutely fabulously delicious, an elegant masterpiece on your living room wall.”
