FUN FEST

How did you get into running your own business at such a young age? Through college and university I had a holiday job as a play worker at Fun Fest Solihull, running the different sports sessions. For relatively low start-up costs I realised that I could replicate this successful business. Having the support of the franchisor gave me the confi dence that, despite my lack of experience, I could achieve my dream of working for myself.

How has it worked for you? To start with, I had a full-time job at the same time as I was setting up by my business, so it was hard work. However, within two years, the returns from Fun Fest Sutton were suffi cient to enable me to step away from my job and to concentrate on building my business. I have now opened a second club in my territory, so the profi ts continue to increase and I know that I made the right decision.

How do you organise your time? I employ a team with childcare experience and qualifi cations who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the clubs while I concentrate on managing other aspects of the business, such as the recruitment, marketing and fi nance. This means that I do not have to be present at the clubs all the time.

What do you like most about being a franchisee? The fl exibility that comes with managing my own time and business in a way that suits me. I love travelling, and as long as I can get internet access then I can manage to get away for chunks of time in between my clubs’ operating periods.

What is your relationship like with your franchisor? I was one of the fi rst franchisees, so I had the benefi t of working closely with the founder, Sarah Beattie, as my mentor. Consequently, I am a passionate advocate of the Fun Fest brand, mission and values. Over time, the team has grown and has built a comprehensive package of training, tools, mentoring and support for franchisees to ensure that they are successful.

What's so special about Fun Fest? Come visit a club and you will see for yourself! The children have so much fun as they engage in the huge variety of activities that we organise for them. We empower children by giving them access to opportunities that they do not get at home or school, and we let them choose how they want to spend their holidays. Parents get the childcare that they need at the same time as knowing that their children are benefi tting from the opportunities that we provide. l
