In the early part of your investigation, not only do you have to plough through all the brochure and online content, you also have to contend with calls from the eager franchisors who have received your requests for more information. So, take a step back. Take some time to refl ect on whether


you can visualise yourself in the business. Do you think you’d enjoy the role you plan to take within the company? Are the rewards what you are looking for? Can you see yourself enjoying the time you spend with other franchisees and the support team?


How do I know if a fra nchise is right for me?


Now get down to the nitty gritty: if


you carry out the activity recommended by the franchisor, are you assured of success? Does the franchisor even offer any kind of (conditional) guarantee? Get all of the information that you can from the franchisor and then validate what you’ve seen and heard by talking to at least one struggling franchisee, someone with an average performance and another top-performing franchisee in the network. And don’t forget, it pays to join the best – where the bar to be awarded the franchise is set the highest. Follow John D.
