What did you do before franchising and what prompted you to make the change? I began my journey into franchising in my mid-twenties following completion of my university degree and a number of years in the financial services sector. My sister Melissa and I came across Home Instead after struggling to find good quality care for our grandfather who had dementia. We were blown away by the ethos of all of the care professionals we came into contact with, that we were inspired to bring the same level of care to our local community and purchased Home Instead Lytham, Fylde and Wyre together.
What attracted you to this franchise opportunity? One of the key factors that attracted me to Home Instead is the training and guidance they offer to their franchisees. Right from the beginning they welcome you to meet the National Office team and other franchisees to help find out more about franchising and the opportunity. There is then ongoing training and advice – everything to help you build and grow your franchise.
Tell us about your journey from single territory to multi-unit ownership, such as when did you know it was the right time to expand? Throughout my career I’ve always had a keen eye for growth, knowing that the success in one territory could be replicated in another, so expansion felt like the best next step, we had seen fantastic growth in our business and so once we hit the decade milestone, I entered into multi-unit ownership with the purchase of a resale expanding into Preston and South Ribble, an office that has now doubled in revenue. I then recently went on to add one of the largest-ever valued Home Instead resales to my portfolio.
What is it about Home Instead that lends itself so well to multi-unit ownership? The support provided by Home Instead is second to none, from single territory ownership right through to multi-unit ownership there is always dedicated support available at National Office. Also, with such a large network – over 255 franchise offices – there is always someone who has been through the same challenges that you might be facing, so the support in that way is invaluable.
“I’ve always had a keen eye for growth, knowing that the success in one territory could be replicated in another, so expansion felt like the best net step”
What are your future plans? I have a desire to continue to grow my portfolio and expand into further territories. I have always invested in the development of my senior leadership team which has allowed me the freedom to pursue further territories and my portfolio, whilst ensuring my existing territories continue to thrive both operationally and in the delivery of exceptional care. And so this is something that remains a priority as I move forward in my businesses.
