Families in franchising

Home Instead Families who care

“It has been wonderful to grow a truly meaningful and rewarding business alongside my wife and daughter”

Meet Mark and Rosina, owners of Home Instead East Northants

Home Instead, the UK’s leading home care franchise has a nationwide network of more than 240 offices who provide care to ageing adults throughout their local communities. With their management

model, many franchisees have built real family businesses – working alongside their spouses and children in the running of their offices. Caring is in your nature – passed down throughout generations, and families often share the desire to provide quality and meaningful care to others, to really ‘change the face of ageing’.

Husband-and-wife duo, Mark and Rosina Darnell opened their Home Instead franchise in East Northants 11 years ago. After a long professional

career working in financial and 34

commercial management roles, Mark wanted a change of career where he could do something more rewarding whilst also working for himself and alongside his wife, Rosina. Rosina had a personal

experience of care, being the sole carer for her mother for a number of years, and also training as a nurse. Seeing first- hand how her mother thrived at home, and that residential care wasn’t for everyone – Rosina understood the importance of helping older people stay well at home and remain a part of their communities. The couple played – as they still do – a key role in their local community. Mark is a member of the local Rotary Club, as well as being involved in charities and local community-based organisations. Their business has achieved

great success, becoming one of the Home Instead network’s highest achieving offices. Mark and Rosina also work

alongside their daughter, Lucy Darnell. Lucy joined the team as a CAREGiver whilst completing her studies, but now works full time

as the business’s Community Engagement and Media Manager – getting Home Instead involved with local groups and running fundraisers for charity. Mark comments: “It has been wonderful to grow a truly meaningful and rewarding business alongside my wife and daughter. We all share a passion for caring, and it is great to give back to our local community through our business venture. “After many years in the

corporate world, working alongside my family is a move I am so glad I made. Not only does it make going to work every day more enjoyable, but we have been able to spread our approach and mission throughout the business and our team – and now it is like having one big, extended family.” Home Instead East Northants

celebrated delivering their millionth hour of care in 2020, showing the true difference they have made to their local community. They must be doing something right, as they are still providing care to their very first client – keeping them safe, well and happy for over ten years!
