he British Franchise Association (bfa) HSBC Franchise Awards 2021 has introduced new award categories in line with the year’s trends and challenges across the sector. The new categories


celebrate diversity and triumphs throughout the industry, encourage business growth and present the chance to recognise tenacity and innovation as well as an opportunity to reflect on the year. This year’s awards – the runners up and


winners of which are revealed on p.9 – highlight in particular the challenges many franchise brands have overcome, showcasing franchisors and franchisees alike who have remained committed to ethical franchising. The UK franchising industry has had the


strength, historically, to adapt to changes across the business landscape. Over the last two years, many franchise brands were able to grow their networks, with flexible and remote working options attracting many and enabling franchise businesses to not only survive, but thrive, throughout a pandemic. As you’re considering entering the world of


franchising, we encourage you to take a look at the categories to see what’s working so well for the franchise industry right now!


The Franchisor of the Year category represents all-rounded excellence in franchising. Six brands have been shortlisted for: their ethical practices,

The Association’s annual awards reflect current trends and reward those leading the industry into the future


overcoming economic challenges and changes to consumer demands and maintaining a secure structure for franchisees to embed themselves into the brand.


The Emerging Franchisor category has four finalists, all of which have demonstrated the implementation of a strong infrastructure, built to sustain growth and detect risks. Brands in this category have committed to supporting their franchisees through ethical recruitment and training.

The Sustainable Warrior category is a new award category to encourage brands into sustainable business practice and celebrate those who remain conscious of their brand’s environmental impact. Two brands have been shortlisted for their ability to adapt and for innovations that reduce their carbon footprint.
